William Bentinck brought his liberal mindset from England and took interest in the lives of Indians. He made changes in the company policies for the benefit of Indians.

He started the norm of recruiting Indians in the Company administration, alongside, his administration allowed the court proceedings in his mother tongue.

In order to remove the evil practices of Sati pratha, he showed support to Raja Rammohan Roy by banning Sati in 1829.

During his time, the education council was formed and Lord Macaulay introduced English education in India.

He was the force behind the introduction of machines in industries, printing press, post and telegraphs along with railway facilities in India which enabled unity and growth of nationalism among Indians.
