What steps could the British have undertaken to uplift the living conditions of Indian farmers?
They could take the following steps for the betterment of Indian farmers :
(a) They could ensure the farmers were growing commercial crops for their industries.
(b) Instead of the Zamindari system, they would have levied a tax directly on farmers which could be exempted in case of crop failures.
(c) They should have provided for infrastructure in the form of irrigation facilities, research and development, electricity, all-weather roads, warehouses etc.
