Question

What triggers RNA interference ?

Open in App
Solution

RNA interference:

  1. The process by which the expression of genes is silenced by small RNA molecules.
  2. RNA interference is based on the ability of small double-stranded RNA to trigger degradation of mRNA or inhibit mRNA translation.
  3. The process of suppressing the expression of genes is called gene silencing.
  4. Gene silencing is triggered by the expression of RNA molecules such as siRNA and miRNA.

RNA interference triggered:

  1. RNA interference is triggered by small interference RNA(siRNA) in plants in response to viral infections such as bacteriophages.
  2. RNA interference in eukaryotes is stimulated by micro RNA (miRNA) produced by normal genes to suppress the expression of some genes.
