Question

What types of mixtures are separated by the technique of crystallization?

Open in App
Solution

Crystallization:

  • Crystallization is a process in which the atoms or molecules of a substance arrange themselves in a fixed three-dimensional lattice and create crystals.
  • Crystallization is the other method used to recover the salt from its solution.
  • It is a more efficient process of recovering salt because it also removes soluble impurities which cannot be done by evaporation.

Generally, homogeneous mixtures such as common salt solution and copper sulphate solution are separated by this technique of crystallization.

Examples of crystallization:

  • Crystallization of water forms cubes of ice.
  • The crystallization of honey is when it is kept in a container and exposed to suitable conditions.

Homogeneous mixtures such as common salt solution and copper sulphate solution are separated by this technique of crystallization.
