Solution
The bob of a pendulum sways to and fro about its equilibrium position. This type of motion is known as oscillation.
Generally, for smaller amplitudes (to and fro motion), oscillations are periodic.
Pendulum is defined as a mass, or bob, connected to a rope, that experiences SHM (Simple Harmonic Motion) as it swings back and forth without friction.
The equilibrium position of the pendulum is the position when the mass is hanging directly downward.
Hence, a pendulum undergoes simple harmonic motion.
