Solution: The revolt of 1857 was brutally suppressed by the British government. There were also several reasons, which resulted in the failure of the revolt.
  • Rebels lacked coordination- The rebels lacked coordination. There was no central leadership and definite provisions for reinforcement of men, money, and ammunition.
  • Revolt happened way before the planned date- The outbreak of Revolt happened haphazardly. It was initially planned to take place at the end of May, but the revolt was rushed, and it alerted the British.
  • Concentrated only in North India- The revolt hardly spread all over India, many Southern states did not participate in the revolt.
  • Nationalism not yet developed- India is a diverse country and different regions were ruled by regional dynasties. Hence, There was no unity or sense of nationalism back then.
  • Leaders fought for lost territories- Most of the leaders fought to regain their territories, they did not fight to free India from British rule.
