After gaining independence there were multiple princely states that wanted to remain independent.
Sir C. R. Ramaswamy Iyer declared the state of Travancore as a sovereign republic after which other rulers like the Nizam of Hyderabad, Nawab of Bhopal, and Holker of Indore expressed their wish to remain independent.
India after gaining independence was partitioned. Due to the partition, many refugees travelled to India which created a problem of unemployment and settlement.
Another major challenge that was faced by the Indian government was the absence of a stable political system in India.
