What were the different scales on which topo sheets were initially drawn in India?

The survey of India was started over hundred years ago. First, our country is mapped on scales of 1, 2, 4 miles to the inch. But most important are 1: 1,000,000 scale maps. In the year 1909, the International Map Committee in London published 1/M sheets or one-in-million maps. Besides, some are published on 1: 2,000,000 or 2M scale by reducing one-in million maps to half the scale.
