Dear Student,
The factors that hindered the growth of trade and commerce in eighteenth century Europe were
1. Lack of proper long distance transport in the continent. Transport facilities were still underdeveloped in much of Europe.
2. Internal divisions within European countries. Countries like Germany and Italy were not unified. Each territory within these countries imposed trade barriers like customs which prevented smooth flow of goods.
3. Continental countries did not follow free trade policies. Instead, they tried to protect their own industries for fear of bein outcompeted by industries in Britain which was the most economically advanced country in Europe. Such interventionist trade policies also hindered the growth of trade and commerce.
Regards.
