Solution

Dear student, When dilute sulphuric acid is added to a mixture of iron fillings and sulphur powder heated to red hot followed by cooling, iron reacts with sulphur to form iron sulphide, FeS. FeS formed reacts with sulphuric acid to form ferrous sulphate and release hydrogendisulphide gas. Regards. Shubhangi Miglani
