The correct option is A Neither lamp will fuse
Step 1: Current rating of first lamp
Given P1=40W,V1=220V
l1=P1V1=40220=211A=0.18A
Also R1=V21P1=220×22040=1210 Ω

Step 2:Current rating of second lamp
Given P2=100W,V2=220V
l2=P2V2=100220=511A=0.45A
Also R2=V22P2=220×220100=484 Ω
Step 3: Find total current in series combination
Let the current flowing through them be. I.
In series combination, equivalent resistance is given by:
R=R1+R2
l=VR1+R2
Given V=40V
Then l=401210+484=401694=0.0236 A
Thus, the current flowing through both the bulbs is lesser than their current ratings.
Hence, neither of the bulbs will fuse.
