What will you do?
(a) A person having cholera is to be given temporary but immediate treatment.
(b) Your friend has contracted chickenpox.
(c) The diet of a person convalescing after typhoid is to be planned.
(d) A child in your class is an AIDS patient.
(a) Cholera is characterized by severe diarrhoea and vomiting that causes dehydration. In this condition a patient should be given Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) as temporary but immediate medical treatment.
(b) If your friend has contracted chickenpox, he should be isolated and you should stay away from him till he recovers completely as it is a highly contagious disease.
(c) A person convalescing (recovering) after typhoid is unable to digest and absorb food properly due to swollen intestines. The patient should be provided with nutritive food that is easy for him to digest and absorb for speedy recovery. So the patients’ diet needs to be planned accordingly.
(d) If a child in our classroom is an AIDS patient, we must treat him like any other normal child. But we must keep in mind not to use his spoon or syringes that may spread disease as the virus may be present in the saliva, blood etc.
