Question

What would fall quicker, a feather or a hammer? Why?

Open in App
Solution

A feather would fall quicker or a hammer:

  1. Our earth is surrounded by air, which causes friction due to the motion of any object through it. It is known as air resistance.
  2. This air resistance works on different shapes differently and slows down their motion.
  3. Now for a feather, the air resistance is more than compared to a hammer, due to its greater aerodynamics.
  4. So, a hammer would fall quicker than a feather (considering the presence of air in our atmosphere).

Therefore, if we drop a feather and a hammer from the same height from the earth's surface, the hammer would fall quicker.
