Question

When a gas is cooled, what happens to its molecules?

Open in App
Solution

There are several things that can happen when a gas is cooled. Some of them are as follows;

  • There is a loss of thermal energy.
  • The kinetic energy of the gas particles is likewise lost, and they move slower.
  • The amount of interparticle space between gas particles shrinks.
  • The gas will turn into a liquid when it cools down further. As a result, there is a phase shift.
