Solution

Global warming :

  1. The phenomenon of the gradual rise in the temperature of the earth due to the high amount of emission of greenhouse gasses, deforestation, burning of fossil fuels, and exposure to chlorofluorocarbons is known as global warming.

Causes of Global warming :

Burning of fossil fuels :

  1. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are burned for the consumption of energy.
  2. It leads to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which is a major cause of rising in the temperature of the earth.

Deforestation:

  1. It is another major cause of global warming as plants are the main source of oxygen.
  2. They consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the atmosphere, when these trees and plants are cut down for commercial and domestic purposes it leads to a disturbance in the environment.

Chlorofluorocarbons :

  1. The release of CFCs from refrigerators, and air conditioners react with the ozone layer which is the protective covering around the earth and protects the earth from harmful Ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun.
  2. The CFCs react with the ozone layer leading to depletion of the Ozone layer and direct emission of UV rays from the sun to the earth leads to a rise in the earth's temperature.

Emission of greenhouse gases from vehicles :

  1. The emission of carbon dioxide from vehicles leads to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
  2. Thus, the temperature of the earth increases.
