Solution
Passing dry chlorine over molten sulphur results in the formation of S2Cl2, which is a yellowish-orange liquid that fumes in the presence of moisture. It has a very pungent odour. When this S2Cl2 further reacts with chlorine, sulphur dichloride (SCl2) is produced. It is a highly toxic liquid that is red in colour.
