  • During the release of ovum, the uterus prepares for a possible fertilisation. It develops a thick wall so as to receive the embryo.
  • However, when there is no fertilisation, the uterine wall begins to disintegrate.
  • This process is called menstruation which occurs with discharge of blood, mucus and unfertilised egg through the vagina.
  • Menarche is the beginning of the first cycle of menstruation.
  • Gestation is the period of developing of an embryo inside the womb between conception and birth.
  • Menopause is the complete stoppage of menstruation.
