Question

When incident wavelength is λ, stopping potential is 3V0. If incident wavelength is 2λ then stopping potential is V0. Find out threshold wavelength in terms of λ.

Open in App
Solution

Let λ0 is the threshold wavelength. So, using relation as

eV=hc(1λ1λ0)

3eV0=hc(1λ1λ0).......(1)

eV0=hc(12λ1λ0).......(2)

Dividing (1) by (2)

3=(1λ1λ0)(12λ1λ0)

3×(12λ1λ0)=(1λ1λ0)

12λ=2λ0

λ0=4λ

threshold wavelength in terms of λ0=4λ
