Question

When Na2O2 and Water react,
why does 2Na2O2 + 2H2O = 4NaOH + O2? Shouldn't it be Na2O2 + 2H2O = 2NaOH + H2O2

Open in App
Solution

If water is cold:
Na2O2 + 2H2O(cold) = H2O2 + 2NaOH

If water is hot:
2Na2O2 + 2H2O(hot) = O2↑ + 4NaOH.
