When quick lime is put in water it starts boiling vilolently? Why it happens.

Calcium oxide reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide, also called slaked lime. A lot of heat (exothermic reaction) is produced in the reaction, which may even cause the water to boil.

Calcius Oxide + Water -> Calcium Hydroxide + Heat
