when we put a mug in water why does it splash back up?

Dear Student ,
Air has a property that it is lighter than water .Air doesn't allow water to enter in the mug and thus the mug gets a strong upward force the mug seems to be empty but it us full with air.when the mug is placed inside water, this creates an upward push that results in a splash.
