Question

When wetting agents like soap or dyes are added to water, the angle of contact becomes?

Solution

Wetting agent:

  1. A surface-active chemical used to lower water's surface tension is called a wetting agent.
  2. Water's significant surface tension would be a difficulty throughout many applications that need water dispersion as well as penetration.
  3. When wetting substances such as soap or colors have been introduced to water, the angle of contact becomes small, allowing these to permeate and then become efficient or active.

The contact angle is 0° inside the event of complete wetness (spreading). This same solid is wettable between 0° and 90°, while it isn't wettable above 90°. The contact area approaches the theoretical maximum of 180° throughout the case of ultra hydrophobic materials with the so-called lotus effect.
