Question

When will speed and velocity of the body be equal?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Speed is the change in position with respect to time while velocity is the rate of change in displacement.
  2. Velocity is a vector quantity while speed is a scalar quantity.
  3. Therefore velocity and speed can be equal when the displacement is equal to change in position (distance) of the body.
  4. This condition is achieved when the body travels in a straight line motion.

Therefore, the speed and velocity of the body is equal when the body moves without any change in direction or moves in a straight line motion.
