Question

Where are proteins synthesised inside the cell?

Open in App
Solution

Translation is the process of protein synthesis from mRNA. Protein synthesis occurs in the cytoplasm where ribosomes play a major role. The mRNAs synthesized in nucleus gets transported to the cytoplasm where protein synthesis takes place. Ribosomes are the organelles responsible for protein translation and are composed of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and proteins. Transfer RNA job is to bring the proper amino acid into the ribosome to be attached to the growing peptide chain. Ribosomes move along the mRNA molecule and catalyze the assembly of amino acids into protein chains.
