Mitosis
Mitosis is called equational cell division in the cell cycle where the newly formed DNA is separated and two new cells are formed with the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus.
Places where mitosis can take place are:
- Mitosis occurs both in germ cells and somatic cells of the gonads.
- Mitosis in plants occurs in the meristematic cells of the shoot tip or root tip.
- These cells divide at a rapid rate.
- As a result, the root tip exhibits active cell division and is used in the laboratory to study the process of mitosis.
