Mediterranean sea
Modern man is believed to have evolved from Cro-Magnon man towards the end of the glacial period. Though fossils of modern man have been found around France, Java and South Africa, it is believed that modern man first appeared about 11000 years ago in the region around Caspian and the Mediterranean sea, and then spread across different parts of the world.
