Solution

Dear student.

Those plants that take some of the nutrients directly from animals are called as carnivorous plants. They are found in areas where soil is deficient in nitrogen.

Carnivorous plants such as Venus fly trap are autotrophic. They contain chlorophyll; hence are capable of preparing their own food.

They grow in swamps or bog areas where the soil is deficient in nitrogen mineral. So, just to fulfill their nitrogen requirement they trap the insects and utilize their proteins. For this reason, they are called insectivorous plant. They can live without insects also but they would be healthier if trap and digest insects.

Carnivorous plants have mucilage or glue or other adaptations which make insects stick to them. The binding of the insect is a trigger or a stimulus that brings about pressure and chemical changes leading to the trapping of the insect by either shutting the trap or pulling the insect down. The insect is then digested by enzymes mainly for its nitrogen content.
