The Judiciary functions at three levels. The courts at the tehsil level are called district courts. They are headed by District Judges. The courts at the state level are called High Courts. The court at the national level is called the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is headed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

When people are unhappy with the verdict of a lower court, they go to a higher court. So, one goes from a district court to the High Court, and from the High Court to the Supreme Court.
