Solution

The correct option is B Mitochondria
Respiration process occurs in several stages. In the first stage, one molecule of (hexose) glucose is converted into two molecules of (three carbon atom containing) pyruvic acid. The process of glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm without consumption of oxygen and no carbon dioxide is evolved. In the next stage which occurs in mitochondria, the pyruvic acid is oxidatively decarboxylated into acetyl coA and one molecule of carbon dioxide is released per molecule of pyruvic acid. The acetyl CoA then enters the Krebs cycle, which occurs in the mitochondrial matrix.
