Dark reaction:

  1. Dark reaction is the second phase of photosynthesis which takes place in the absence of light in the stroma of a chloroplast.
  2. In this reaction, atmospheric carbon dioxide is absorbed and converted into a molecule of glucose by the ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase enzyme.
  3. The carbon dioxide is fixed in Calvin-Benson cycle to glucose which is stored as starch in the plant cells.
  4. The energy-stored molecules such as ATP and NADPH2 are utilized to initiate the reactions.
