Open in App
Solution

Ciliated columnar epithelium

  1. Cells of columnar epithelium are tall and pillar-like.
  2. The nucleus of the cell is located at the base.
  3. Sometimes the free ends have a brush-like border or hair-like projections on the outer surface of epithelial cells called cilia.
  4. So, such a type of epithelium is called the ciliated epithelium.

Location :

  1. The columnar epithelium is found in those parts which are responsible for absorption and secretion, such as it forms the lining of the intestine, stomach, and colon, forming mucous membrane.
  2. The columnar epithelium also forms a lining in the gall bladder and oviducts.
  3. The ciliated columnar epithelium is found in sperm ducts, lining the trachea, bronchi, kidney tubules, respiratory tract, and oviducts.
  4. Sometimes the columnar epithelium gets modified into pseudostratified epithelium, which occurs in nasal and genital tracts..
