Question

Where is pressure greater, 20 m below the sea level or 35 cm below?

Open in App
Solution

Depth of water, h1 = 20 m
Density of water, ρ = 1000 kg/m3
Pressure of the water, P = h1ρg
P = 20 × 1000 × 9.8 =196000 Pa

Depth of the water, h2 = 35 cm
= 35/100 m
= 0.35 m
Density of water ρ = 1000 kg/m3
Pressure of the water, P = h2ρg
P = 0.35 × 1000 × 9.8 = 343 Pa

It is clear that at 35 cm below the sea level, the pressure will be lower.
