Question

Which alkyl halide has maximum reactivity?

Open in App
Solution

Alkyl halide

  • In alkyl halides, the halogen atom is bonded to an alkyl group (R).
  • The general formula for alkyl halide is CnH2n+1X.

Reactivity of alkyl halide

  • For a given alkyl group, the reactivity of the halide, R-X, follows the order as follows:-
  • RI>RBr>RCl>>RF
  • As iodine is a better leaving group due to its larger size compared to other halogens.
  • So, the reactivity of R-I is maximum compared to other alkyl halides.
