Thus they increase urine volume and frequency of urination. Some athletes use diuretics to rapidly flush out the traces of other drugs such as anabolic steroids or to rapidly lose weight to achieve the standards needed to qualify for participating in events. However using diuretics is illegal and can cause severe dehydration in the body.
