The slide of leaf peel mount is made to visualize the structure of stomata in the leaf. Stomata is the opening on the leaf epidermis which is used in transpiration. It is scattered among the epidermal cells. The lower side of the leaf is taken for visualizing stomata because on the lower epidermis more stomata are present as compared to upper. Apart from stomata, Epidermal cells, guard cells with many nuclei and one chloroplast are also visible in the mount.
