The heart is a muscular organ with four chambers that has a vital role in pumping blood to various body parts.
Blood vessels:
Blood vessels represent a general term for all the structures which carry blood inside the human body. Blood vessels include veins, arteries, and capillaries.
The blood vessels that enter the heart are called veins, while arteries are the blood vessels that leave the heart.
Blood vessels entering the heart:
Inferior vena cava: Inferior vena cava is a vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the abdomen, pelvis, and lower limbs to the right auricle.
Superior vena: Superior vena drains the deoxygenated blood from the head, neck, upper chest, and arms to the right auricle.
Pulmonary vein: Pulmonary vein brings the oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left auricle.
Blood vessels leaving the heart:
Pulmonary artery: Pulmonary artery carries the deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs.
Aorta: Aorta is a major artery that carries the oxygenated blood from the heart to various body parts.
