Which cell division process is associated with asexual reproduction?
Mitosis is also known as the equational division where a parent cell is divided into two daughter cells with an equal amount of genetic material and cytoplasmic content. The chromosome number is equal in the parent as well as the newly formed cells.
Meiosis I is also known as reductional division. It is the process by which germ cells are formed. In this phase of the cell cycle, chromosome number gets reduced to half in the newly formed cells. The second phase of meiosis i.e. meiosis II is exactly similar to mitosis where equational division occurs and the final four haploid daughter cells are produced.
The process of halving the diploid number of chromosomes by reduction division (meiosis) is also called haplosis.
Equational division or mitosis is the type of cell division that is associated with the asexual mode of reproduction.
