Question

Which fraction of soil water is available to plants for absorption by roots?

Open in App
Solution

The plant cells have only a small fraction of the total water available in soil. This is known as capillary water which is present as a thin layer on the soil particles as well as between the pores of the soil particles. The roots absorb this water and it becomes the main source of water for the plant.
