  1. Carbon dioxide is released by the lungs.

  4. Vascularized bags called lungs are used by living beings for the exchange of gases.

  6. Alveoli is the site where the actual exchange of gases takes place.
  7. Actual diffusion of O2 and CO2 between blood and atmospheric air takes place in alveoli.
  8. O2 has to be continuously provided to the cells during inspiration and carbon dioxide produced by the cells has to be released by expiration.
  9. The air move in and out of the lungs by creating a pressure gradient between the lungs and the atmosphere.
