Solution

Methanol {CH3OH} — It is a light, volatile, colorless, flammable, organic liquid with a distinctive alcoholic odor.

  • It is also known as wood alcohol or wood spirit and is considered an alternative fuel under the energy policy act of 1992
  • As an engine fuel, methanol has chemical and physical fuel properties similar to ethanol
  • Methanol has produced from synthesis gas [ carbon monoxide and hydrogen ] itself derived from oil, coal, or, increasingly, biomass

Hydrochloric acid [HCl] — it is also known as muriatic acid, is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride

  • It is classified as a strong acid
  • it is a colorless solution with a distinctively pungent smell
  • It is a component of the gastric acid in the digestive systems of most animal species, including humans
  • it is formed by the direct combination of chlorine gas and hydrogen gas the reaction is rapid at temperatures above 250 C

Thus, Hydrogen gas is used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid and methanol
