There are several health parameters that should be checked before donating blood. These are:
Age: The donor should be between 18-65 years old and before and after this age a person should not be allowed to donate blood.
Weight: A person should weigh a minimum of 50 kg and underweight individuals should not be allowed as they can become weak or feel dizzy after donation.
Haemoglobin level: It should lie between normal ranges as abnormal levels may indicate some kind of ailment and such individuals should be avoided from donating blood.
Medical condition: Individuals suffering from heart diseases or lung diseases should be excluded.
HIV infected people, people having anaemia, cancer, diabete should be avoided.
Pregnant women should also refrain from donating blood.
