Question

Which is not polymeric

1.Lipids 2.proteins 3. nucleic acid

Open in App
Solution

Lipids are not polymers.

Polymers are big molecules - long chains - that are made of little molecules called monomers.

Nucleic acids are polymers of individual nucleotide monomers.

Proteins are long chains made of amino acids which makes them polymers.

On the other hand, lipids are fat-soluble molecules.

Lipids are esters of glycerol and fatty acids.

Lipids (fats and oils) are forms of triacyglycerol -> composed of glycerol and three fatty acids.

Backbone of lipid (glycerol) can be a massive molecule, but lipid is not made of monomers, so it is not a polymer.
