Solution

Isotopes

  • Isotopes are the atoms of same chemical element with different mass numbers.
  • Examples: Hydrogen has three isotopes. They are; protium (H11), deuterium (H12) and tritium (H13).
  • All of them has one proton but their mass numbers are different.
  • Being atoms of the same chemical element, they have same chemical properties.

Protium (H11)

  • It is the most abundant isotope of hydrogen in nature as its abundance is 99.9% and that of deuterium is 0.1%. Tritium is present only in trace amounts.
