Humayun ascended the throne in 1530 and in 1533 founded a new city, Din Panah, on the bank of the Yamuna River. Sher Shah, who defeated Humayun in 1540, razed Din Panah to the ground and built his new capital, the Sher Shahi. This new capital now known as Purana Qila fort, in southeastern Delhi.
