An aldol condensation is a reaction in which an enol or an enolate ion reacts with a carbonyl compound to form a β-hydroxyketone (an aldol reaction), followed by dehydration to give a conjugated enone.
Carbonyl compounds that contain αhydrogen can undergo aldol condensation in the presence of dilute base as NaOH or KOH
