Which of the following does not occur in a nephron?
Urea synthesis occurs in the liver. Ammonia is a toxic product of nitrogen metabolism which should be removed from our body. The urea cycle or ornithine cycle converts excess ammonia into urea in the mitochondria of liver cells. The urea forms, then enter the bloodstream, is filtered by the kidneys and is ultimately excreted in the urine.
A nephron is the basic unit of structure in the kidney. A nephron is used separate to water, ions and small molecules from the blood, filter out wastes and toxins, and return needed molecules to the blood.
