2) Green revolution involves increased deployment of technologies including pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers as well as new breeds of high-yielding crops in order to meet the increasing demand of food globally.
3) Synthetic fertilisers used to increase crop production lead to the release of certain toxic impurities like cadmium, lead, arsenic and even uranium. These elements released into soil cause pollution of underwater reservoirs, on leaching through the soil layers.
