Communicable disease:

Diseases that are caused by a pathogen which can be transmitted from a diseased individual to a healthy individual and affects the healthy individual is called a communicable disease.

The microorganisms that cause these diseases are known as pathogens and include varieties bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi. Cholera is caused by a pathogenic bacteria, chickenpox is caused due to a viral infection and malaria is caused due to a protozoan.

Cancer is a non-communicable disease as it is caused by defective genetic character of the individual and it is not transmitted from an individual affected by cancer to a healthy individual.
