Which of the following is not a purpose of transpiration?
The loss of water from the aerial parts because of transpiration results in a tension in the xylem, which is responsible for absorption of water by roots. In transpiration, water is lost in the form of vapour, which has a cooling effect. Minerals are transported along with water to all parts of the plant, and water is transported by transpirational pull. Translocation of sugars from source to sink happens through phloem but is not driven by transpiration.
