Purple sulfur bacteria are proteobacteria, that are phototropic (Dependent upon light for the process of photosynthesis). They are anaerobic and are mostly found in hot springs or the stagnant water of lakes, ponds etc. They do not require water for the process of oxidation and reduction and thus does not produce oxygen.
